R. Maxwell Racine

Welcome! I am a Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Religion in the Department of Humanities and Arts at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

My research lies at the intersection of ethics, existentialism, philosophy and literature, and social and political philosophy. In particular, I explore how stories in life and literature serve as important sources of understanding, including in contexts of structural oppression.

I earned my Ph.D. in Philosophy at Fordham University in 2022. My dissertation, "Narrative, Receptivity, and Understanding Others," addresses the failures of people who occupy positions of privilege to take oppression seriously.
